From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

A missing 24-year-old woman and her baby son have been found safe and well after an appeal by police.

Samantha Thomas, from Sheerness in Kent, and her 10-month-old child had not been seen since 10.30am on Thursday.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "A woman reported missing with her young child on Christmas Eve, from the Sheerness area, has now been found.

"Both the woman and child are safe and well. Thanks to everyone for your cooperation with the appeal."

Ms Thomas was described as having blue eyes and dark brown, shoulder-length hair.

She was last seen wearing a dark-coloured leather jacket with a maroon blouse and black leggings.
