A police officer is in hospital with serious head injuries after a crash between his motorbike and a car.

The condition of the Metropolitan Police officer, who was off duty at the time, was unknown after the accident at about 12.45pm on Saturday in London.

A spokesman said no one else was injured in the collision in Great Dover Street, Southwark, and the car stopped at the scene.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating and no arrests have been made.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We treated a man at the scene for serious head injuries and he was taken as a priority by ambulance to the Royal London Hospital."
