Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Hundreds of Americana enthusiasts descended on an authentic 1950s holiday camp for the biannual Hemsby Rock ’n’ Roll Weekend.
The period festival reliving the spirit of the 1940s and 50s US music scene attracted scores of men in leather jackets and manicured quiffs, and women sporting ankle socks and ponytails, to Seacroft Holiday Camp in the village of Hemsby.
The four-day festival, now in its 25th year, saw a line-up of live bands and artists, including veteran rockers Freddie Cannon and Bobby Hendricks, playing as revellers lindy-hopped, bopped and jived across the dancefloors.
A hotly anticipated performance by Marshall Lytle & The Shooting Stars was cancelled at short notice after Mr Lytle, 79, revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer last month.
His replacement was the legendary tenor saxophonist and singer Jimmy Cavallo, best known for performing with his band in the 1956 film Rock, Rock, Rock and becoming the first all-white band to play at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York.
