Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

It is a social event that is sure to separate the men from the boys. As for women, even the tiniest of little black dresses won't get them past the doormen. At this club night, the dress code is simple – birthday suits only.

On Wednesday, clubbers from across Europe will descend on Nottingham – the exact location is a closely guarded secret – where they will dance the night away, in the nude.

The organiser, a production company called Hotdog, insists that "Naked" is neither a publicity stunt nor an April Fool's prank. The company has spent months organising the event, and has booked £25,000 worth of disc jockeys– sporting such unlikely names as Lisa Lashes, Brandon Block and Fergie – for the night.

According to one of the promoters, Andrew Hinds: "We've been inundated with thousands of requests for tickets, and had calls from world-class DJs begging to play – people you normally can't book at all."

The venue is being kept under wraps until the last possible moment. Would-be naked revellers have had to apply for tickets by email only. Those granted tickets will be informed - via email – 24 hours in advance.

To get around licensing and health and safety difficulties, the night is being billed as a "private event". Since no entry charge is allowed, the organisers will ask for "donations" on the door. The suggested amount will be between £10 and £50 – and some 500 naked clubbers are expected.

Planning for this week's event began after a trial night last year, when around 200 people partied in their bare essentials at another Nottingham bar, Synergy.

"What started out as a bit of a laugh for friends has evolved into something of worldwide appeal," said Roman – "just Roman" – the marketing manager. "We've received interest in Naked from all over Europe, the US and Russia."

Changing rooms will be available but the organisers appear to have tempted fate by choosing a club with unisex toilets. They admitted that things got "quite fruity" at the last event, but insisted that the music will be the focus of the evening."There's nothing sexual about this," Roman said. "It's just about having fun and feeling free on the dance floor."
