Your support makes all the difference.A North Yorkshire takeaway has taken down a sign telling customers they were not allowed to wear masks inside following complaints.
The notice – in the window of Mama Mia's Pizza And Kebab Takeaway in Scarborough – said such face coverings were for "hooligans, vigilantes, superheroes, criminals and asbestos workers".
It added: “Remove mask before entering, thank you.”
But after a photo of the window note was posted to social media, it was removed. Staff at the eatery, in the seaside town's Seamer Road, told they BBC they had got rid of the A4-sized sign because it was “inappropriate”.
Masks have been mandatory in enclosed public spaces since Friday.
They must be worn when buying takeaway food and drink – although they can be removed in a seating area if a customer consumes their food there.
The picture of the sign caused much debate when posted to Facebook. “Must be desperate for customers,” one respondent wrote. “The sign actually breaks current regulations."
But others supported the stance.
“I am so relieved to see a business going against the new ABnormal and acting in the best interests of their customers by not enforcing mask wearing,” said one user. “Thank you so much, keep going strong X."
While there are exemptions to the new rules for children under 11 and those with disabilities or certain health conditions, those who break them without such exceptions could face a fine of up to £100.
