The National Lottery has apologised after posting the wrong winning numbers for a EuroMillions which had a jackpot of £19 million.

Instead of publishing the two lucky stars as 05 and 08 the lottery website showed 05 and 06 following the draw on Friday.

Participants took to Twitter to complain, with Fiona Blair saying: "Looks like one of these sites made a lottery balls-up… were the lucky stars 5,8 or 5,6?"

Another Twitter user, Da Silva Fox wrote: "@TNLUK are going to have angry people today after the euromil draw.

"Website say Lucky stars are 5 & 6, they tweet 5 & 8… I got the latter!"

The Lottery quickly rectified the issue and has promised to correctly compensate all winning tickets.

In an a notice on its website, the National Lottery said: "Please note that an incorrect Lucky Star was published on the National Lottery website following the EuroMillions draw on Friday 25th March.

"The Lucky Stars drawn were 05 and 08, but the website was showing 05 and 06.

"We’ve fixed this now and all prizes were processed correctly, but we’re very sorry for any inconvenience caused."

This Friday's EuroMillions jackpot is an estimated £31 million.
