From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Rechelle Haigh posted CCTV footage of the man approaching her children on social media, where it has been widely shared.
The video shows her daughters, Sadè, 8, Ameya, 2, and stepdaughter Roxie, 6, playing in the garden of their home in Partington, Manchester, as a man in a white van pulls up outside.
Sadè, the eldest, is seen taking her younger siblings inside.
When her mother went out to confront the driver, he sped away.
Posting the video to Facebook, Ms Haigh said: “Here is the footage of the man that tried to offer my children doughnuts [and] told them to go to his van.
“Absolutely scary to watch but I'm so proud of my Sadè for acting fast in this footage.
“Please keep your kids safe. When I approached this man he acted weird and asked me if my kids wanted some doughnuts then drove off when I stepped out the house.
“I thank my blessing I still have my children and I have always told Sadè to run if this ever happened.”
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester police said: “We received a report on the 7th October that a van driver had offered two girls some doughnuts on Inglewood Close.
“The incident is being treated as suspicious, but we have no evidence as of yet that he tried to lure the girls into his van.
“The investigation is ongoing.”
