Your support makes all the difference.A 54-year-old man trapped in a collapsed trench at a housing estate has died after attempts to save him failed today.
Rescuers fought for several hours to free the man after he became trapped at the site of a new housing estate in Letterston, Pembrokeshire, west Wales.
Major efforts to stabilise the collapsed trench and free the man ended in failure.
Police were called to the scene, in Station Road, Letterston, after first reports that a man had become trapped at 10.10am.
"All emergency services were at the scene working on a delicate operation to free the man," a Dyfed Powys Police spokesman said.
"We can now confirm that a 54-year-old local man tragically died.
"Police and the Health and Safety Executive are now carrying out a joint investigation into the circumstances.
"Next of kin have been informed and HM Coroner for Pembrokeshire has also been informed."
