A man has been killed after he stepped out of his car following a crash and was then hit by another vehicle.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the man was run over on the M32 motorway near Bristol just after 10pm on Saturday.

Five cars were involved in the collision on the northbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 1, which saw three other people also injured.

The man, who has not yet been named by the police, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics.

Avon and Somerset Police said the incident started with one collision, after which the man got out of his car and was then struck by another car.

One person suffered back injuries and two others were “walking wounded” following the crash.

The motorway remains closed in both directions as police carry out their investigation.

Avon and Somerset Police issued an appeal for information from witnesses or footage of the incident.
