A young woman has been killed in a suspected hit and run in London.

The pedestrian, aged in her early 20s, was struck by a car “travelling at speed” on Brixton Hill in Lambeth at about 00.30am on Saturday.

Police, air ambulance and land ambulance rushed to the woman’s aid but she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed.

Detectives are now hunting for the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision, who did not stop at the scene.

The car is believed to be a dark-coloured Volkswagen, possibly a Golf, which may have had its bonnet damaged during the incident.

Any witnesses or those with information that could assist police are asked to call 101 ref CAD 183/12 Jan.
