A woman was stabbed to death in north London, becoming the third person to be killed on the capital's streets in the space of just 12 hours.

Her death came just minutes before another man was shot to death less than a mile away in Kentish Town on Sunday evening.

A man was also shot earlier in the day, although eyewitnesses suggested he may have killed himself when a bullet he fired ricocheted off a car and hit him.

Scotland Yard said a 35-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder linked to the death of the woman in Camden.

Officers found the victims in her twenties with a stab wound. She later died at the scene.

While a formal identification is yet to take place, police said they were confident that the victim’s identity is known and next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

Two other women were also found with minor slashing injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, a murder probe has been launched in relation to the death of the man who was shot in Kentish Town.

The victim, who is believed to be in his twenties, was found with a gunshot wound less than a mile away from where the woman was stabbed minutes earlier.

An air ambulance was sent to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.

Scotland Yard said formal identification has not been made and the victim’s relatives have yet to be told.

The force said a post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of death, and no arrests have been made.
