The King will miss next month’s COP29 climate summit, it has been reported.
Charles, 75, has allegedly not been invited to this year’s event after government officials concluded that it would be in the best interests of his health and schedule.
“The King will not be going to COP. He has not been asked by the government to attend the event and he is also mindful of his own commitments following the upcoming autumn tour,” a source told The Mirror.
Taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan from 11 to 22 November, COP29 will see world leaders gather to discuss climate change and the collaborative steps they can take to tackle it.
The monarch won widespread praise last December for a speech at COP28 where he stressed the importance of urgently meeting the 2015 Paris Agreement goals
This comes after it was reported that the King is to “pause” his cancer treatment while taking part in a high-profile visit to Australia and Samoa this month after getting the go-ahead from doctors.
Charles, who will make the nine-day visit with Queen Camilla, was first diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer earlier this year after a routine procedure to treat an enlarged prostate.
It is understood that he will continue his treatment upon his return, following 11 days of travelling. His doctor will accompany him on what is the most significant overseas tour he has made since the diagnosis.
The Independent has approached Buckingham Palace for comment.
King Charles new patron of National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs
King Charles has been named as the new patron of the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC).
The monarch, 75, will succeed his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II in the role, which she held for 65 years.
NFYFC chair of council Drew Bailey said: “NFYFC is honoured that His Majesty The King is our Royal Patron. His Majesty’s commitment to Young Farmers’ Clubs reflects our proud history of nine decades of developing rural young people’s skills.
“As a former president of the National Federation, we are privileged to now have His Majesty serve as our patron.
“His Majesty’s commitment to the countryside and the welfare of rural communities perfectly aligns with the mission of NFYFC and its clubs and counties. Much of our work focuses on developing rural young people’s skills and raising awareness about opportunities in the sector.”
Duchess of Edinburgh to remind children to ‘cherish’ their eyesight
The Duchess of Edinburgh is set to remind people how important it is to “cherish” their eyesight when she makes an appearance on a CBeebies bedtime story.
To be aired on World Sight Day, which is taking place on Thursday (10 October), Specs for Rex is centred around a young lion named Rex who is reluctant to wear his glasses to school.
The duchess said in a trailer for the program: “Millions of us need glasses to see the world clearly.
“World Sight Day is a reminder to all of us to take care of our eyes, whether we need glasses or not.
“Our eyes are precious, and our sight is something to cherish and look after. So, let’s remember to take care of our eyes this World Sight Day.”

Prince Harry provided a rare insight into Princess Lilibet’s life at the Wellchild Awards last week, revealing that his children have been “blessed” with their mother’s hair.
The charity celebrates the achievements of seriously ill children in the UK and their carers and Harry flew especially to the UK for the occasion.
Sophie Vokes-Dudgeon, who was in attendance, told HELLO! magazine: “From the moment he arrived in the reception room, he had an infectious energy about him, and there were no airs and graces at all as he chatted animatedly about his own children ahead of the event.”

Buckingham Palace has celebrated the Duchess of Edinburgh’s recent conversation with astronaut Sunita Williams aboard the International Space Station.
Taking to Twitter/X, the palace said in a statement: “The Duchess of Edinburgh joined 100 Girlguiding members for a live Q&A with astronaut Sunita Williams aboard the International Space Station!
“This special radio contact, held at Brooklands Museum, celebrated girls in STEM and gave Girlguides the chance to ask Sunita about life in space – from what she’s been eating to what space smells like!”
Sophie, 59, is now on a four-day tour of Malta to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the country’s independence.

The reason why Prince Harry will not bring Meghan Markle to the UK
Prince Harry explained earlier this year why he will not bring his wife Meghan Markle back to the UK.
The Duke of Sussex made a flying visit to his home country for the WellChild Awards last week before immediately jetting off to Southern Africa for more solo charitable engagements.
Speaking to ITV’s Tabloids on Trial, he said that he has genuine concerns for his wife’s safety in the UK because of negative tabloid stories.
“All it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff to act on what they have read,” Harry said. “And whether it’s a knife or acid, whatever it is, and these are things that are of genuine concern for me.”
Edward and Sophie commemorate war dead in Malta
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have paid tribute to the people of Malta and Britain who gave their lives in the Second World War.
They honoured the fallen from a military ship where the duke threw a wreath into the water that was accompanied by a posy from the duchess.
A plaque was also unveiled to submariners who died in World War Two, named the Mariner’s Walkway, and the event was marked with applause from their descendants.
Edward said: “It’s great to have that recognition now of the service.”
The couple are currently on a four-day visit to mark the 60th anniversary of Malta’s independence.
‘King’s model town’ in disarray as rubbish piles up on streets
Poundbury, in Dorset, was designed based on the architectural principles laid out by King Charles in 1989, in his book A Vision of Britain.
In the book, the King stressed the need to preserve each town’s unique character, The Telegraph reported.
Poundbury is built on land which is owned by the King’s Duchy of Cornwall, and was hailed as a success story of the King’s vision.
But locals say the King would be “horrified” if he saw what has happened to the town.
Bins are piling up on the streets as the council refuses to collect residents’ mixed recycling.
Residents claim that rat infestations are now swarming the streets of the town, which was built 32 years ago on the outskirts of Dorchester, with Queen Mother Square the centrepiece.
One resident said the smell is “awful”, while another complained it was an “eyesore”.
“The King would be horrified. It’s like a third-world country, and it’s like this every week,” said another.
The council says it is the fault of residents who do not separate their rubbish.
