Jay Slater missing – latest: Father hits out at online trolls as volunteers join Tenerife search for teenager
Spanish police haved called for volunteers as they carry out a new large-scale search in northern Tenerife
Jay Slater’s father and brother have joined search times in scouring the mountainside in Tenerife for the missing teenager, after Spanish police put out an appeal for volunteers.
Warren Slater told reporters: “We just still can’t believe it; it’s been so tough on us, and I want people to think about us as parents and what we are going through.
“All those trollers having a go at us, they don’t know how we feel, why don’t they come up here and have a look and see for themselves how dangerous it is.”
It comes as police have declared that the two British men who put up the missing British teenager the night before he disappeared are of “no relevance” to the investigation.
The 19-year-old vanished nearly two weeks ago near Buenavista del Norte, Tenerife, after travelling there with two men he had met at a festival around 27 miles further south on the island.
The teenager was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with shorts and trainers, and his phone shows his last location as the Rural de Teno park at 8.50am on Monday 22 June.
Jay Slater machete gang attack victim hits out at internet trolls and urges them to help find teenager
A man who had his “skull split open” in a machete attack carried out by a gang including Jay Slater has broken his silence on the desperate search for the teenager who vanished in Tenerife.
The missing 19-year-old was part of a group of eight people who attacked Tom Hilton, then 17, with a machete, golf clubs and an axe in Rishton, Lancashire, in 2021.
The apprentice bricklayer, from Oswaldtwistle, was handed an 18-month community order with 25 days of rehabilitation activities and 150 hours of unpaid work for his role in the violent disorder.

Jay Slater’s disappearance has exposed the horrifying cruelty of social media
Over the weekend, I assumed that Jay Slater, the teenage boy who disappeared during a holiday to Tenerife, must have been found safe and well. This was the only explanation, I reasoned, for the plethora of flippant comments – ranging from gently mocking to downright nasty – flooding social media.
“Has the search party looking for Jay Slater tried shouting ‘Autoglass repair’. If he’s in the vicinity he will shout back ‘Autoglass replace’,” read one.
“If #JaySlater has been on the gear then he’ll have a dose of the munchies. Has anyone thought about shouting ‘Domino hoh hoo’ into the valley?”, went another.

Jay Slater’s family are ‘utterly broken’ and ‘still holding out hope’ to find teen in Tenerife
The family of missing teenager Jay Slater say they are “utterly broken” as the search continues in Tenerife for a tenth day with no clues to shed light on his disappearance.
The 19-year-old has not been heard from since last Monday morning, when he contacted a friend shortly after 8am to say he was lost in the Rural de Teno park and had only one per cent phone battery.
Former detective Mark Williams-Thomas has now flown over from the UK after offering the family his assistance, as Spanish police and sniffer dogs continue to scour the mountainous region in the north of the island.

Jay Slater’s friend reveals details of final phone call as appeal for search volunteers issued
One of Jay Slater’s closest friends has revealed details of a phone call which took place shortly before he disappeared in the mountains of Tenerife.
An emotional Brad Hargreaves said that he heard the teenager sliding on gravel and that he had encouraged him to order a taxi, after they realised he had travelled miles away from their accommodation.
The duo had attended the New Rave Generation festival in Papagayo’s nightclub in the southern tourist hotspot of Playa de Las Americas, with Mr Slater returning to an AirBnb with two older men in in the small village of Masca.

Teen’s mother issues update on fundraiser page
Jay Slater’s mother has announced she is withdrawing some of the money raised in the fundraiser that was launched to help find her missing son.
Debbie Duncan, 55, said the funds will go towards the search efforts in an update posted on the GoFundMe page on Thursday morning, as she vowed the teenager’s loved ones will not lose hope and will bring him home.
She wrote: “I would like to thank everyone for your support, kind messages, and good wishes. It’s difficult to wrap our heads around what is happening right now, but we are not losing hope that we will find Jay and return home together.
“We are currently working with GoFundMe to withdraw part of the funds, which are being safely held. I wanted to share that these funds will be used to support the mountain rescue teams who are tirelessly searching for Jay. Additionally, since our stay in Tenerife needs to be extended, we will also use the funds to cover accommodation and food expenses. I’m surrounded by wonderful people who are by my side, but far from their loved ones, so we’ll also be using part of these funds to fly them to Tenerife so we can support each other during these dark times.
“Thank you again for all your donations and support, this means the world to us.”
