Jay Slater’s father makes six-word plea to son at visit to site of search

Spanish police have spoken to several people who said they may have seen Jay Slater watching Euro 2024 matches after his last contact with friends, a local mayor has said.

Emilio Jose Navarro, mayor of the town of Santiago del Teide, said officers have interviewed a number of people who believe they saw the 19-year-old.

Police are examining grainy CCTV footage from the town, which is around three-and-a-half miles from the mountainous Rural de Teno park - the apprentice bricklacker's last known location - to determine whether it is a possible sighting.

The image, shared by the family to media outlets, shows a person walking through town and was captured around 10 hours after Jay's phone last pinged.

Mr Slater’s family also gave a statement through a spokesperson on Wednesday afternoon, telling reporters in Tenerife they are “utterly broken” but “very united”.

Search for Jay Slater enters tenth day

Rescue teams will begin day ten of their search for missing British teenager Jay Slater in Tenerife on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old disappeared after attending the New Rave Generation music festival last Sunday evening in Papagayo Beach Club on the south of the island.

After making new acquaintances during the early hours of the morning, he travelled with two British men to a remote AirBnb, an 11-hour hike from his accommodation.

At around 8.15am last Monday, he contacted his friend Lucy Law and told her that he was lost, had injured his leg, was dehydrated and that his phone only had one per cent battery.

At 8.50am, his phone was last located near the Mirador La Cruz de Hilda cafe, a steep climb in the wrong direction from where an eyewitness had told him to head.

Former police chief constable hits out at Jay Slater armchair detectives

A former police chief constable has hit out at armchair detectives following a social media frenzy surrounding missing British teenager Jay Slater. As the search for the 19-year-old, who disappeared after attending a music festival in Tenerife over a week ago continues, a former polce boss has urged the public to stop “hampering” the investigation. Sue Sim, the former chief constable of Northumbria Police who led the high-profile search for Raoul Moat, told Sky News on Monday (24 June): “Having led massive inquiries of this type, please do not spend time putting things on social media. “The worst thing that people can do sitting at home in their armchairs is to speculate what might have happened.”
