Jack and Chloe are most popular baby names
Jack and Chloe are the two most popular names of babies born in 2002, according to a survey which also shows the enduring popularity of biblical names for boys.
Six of the top 10 choices for boys Joshua, Thomas, Daniel, Matthew, Luke and Joseph are from the scriptures.
But the survey, conducted by Bounty.com, an online guide for parents, also found that mothers and fathers were increasingly inspired by celebrities. Mia, chosen by actress Kate Winslet, entered the top 30 for the first time while Dylan, the choice of Catherine Zeta Jones, remained at number 27.
Bounty, which recorded the names given to 160,000 babies, 95 per cent of those born in Britain in 2002, found that the Queen's golden jubilee year saw a revival of the name Charlie, which returned to the top 30 after years' absence. Ellie was a popular choice in 2002, rising from 13th on last year's list to fifth. Another popular name was Ben, which rose from 23rd in 2001 to 11th in 2002.
According to the Office for National Statistics, Jack and Chloe have been the top boys' and girls' names since 1994 and 1996 respectively.
