Holloway fire: Residents 'flee homes' as 70 firefighters tackle blaze at London flats

More than 70 firefighters and 10 fire engines were called to tackle a blaze which broke out at a block of flats in north London.

37 residents reportedly fled their homes in panic after a large fire began in Rollit Street, Holloway, in the early hours of the morning on 4 April.

A large section of the roof was alight as well as part of a flat on the third floor.

It took just over two hours for the fire to be put under control, with firefighters remaining at the scene to dampen down the building.

Station manager Clive Priestly who was at the scene said: “Firefighters draped plastic sheeting in the flats to try and protect homes and belongings as much as possible from the water we used to tackle the flames.”

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
