The Unite union official at the heart of the Grangemouth dispute has resigned from his job at the plant.

Stevie Deans was investigated by operator Ineos following his involvement in the Falkirk Labour candidate row.

The company said in a statement: “[We were] due to meet with Mr Deans tomorrow but have now received his resignation.”

Ineos had threatened to close the oil refinery but reached a deal with the union.
