A 40-year-old female pilot was killed yesterday when her light aircraft crashed at Silverstone racing circuit, police said.

Vicki Cruse, from California, was due to compete in the World Aerobatic Championships, a biennial event, when her Zivko Edge 540 light aircraft crashed. She was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured in the incident.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is investigating the crash.
