Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Peter Rowell, who has regularly presented shows and news items for both ITV West and BBC local radio, was known to be depressed, police said.
Fears were raised after he failed to turn up at BBC Radio Bristol's headquarters to present his afternoon radio show.
The 52-year-old from Wickwar, South Gloucestershire, was last seen at about 8.30am yesterday when he left home for work, officers said.
Avon and Somerset Police described him as "vulnerable".
"He did not turn up for work and concern increased when he could not be contacted," a spokesman added.
"Peter parked his car at Morrisons supermarket in Yate.
"He is thought to be depressed following the death of a close relative."
Mr Rowell has white hair and is 5ft 10ins and stocky. He is possibly wearing brown coloured jeans and a white shirt.
Alex Lewis, the stand-in presenter for Mr Rowell's afternoon radio show yesterday, told listeners tuning in at 2pm: "It's great to be back in your company. You weren't expecting me, were you?
"He's very healthy usually but today Mr Peter Rowell is a little bit under the weather, so I'm here instead."
After playing the first song in the two-hour show, she added: "I'm sitting in today for Mr Rowell, as he's a little bit poorly."
