Escalator work to hit Embankment station Tube services for 43 weeks
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

For 43 weeks of 2014 Bakerloo and Northern line trains will not stop at Embankment station so the work can be completed.
Transport for London (TfL) said customers wanting to use either line were being advised to use Waterloo or Charing Cross stations which are a short walk from Embankment.
TfL said the work, due to start on January 8, involves four escalators which were installed more than 80 years ago and were last refurbished in the 1970s.
It added that the work would involve replacing all four at once. If the work had been phased it would have taken "at least 75 weeks".
Embankment is one of the busiest Underground stations, serving Charing Cross main line station as well as Trafalgar Square and the theatres and restaurants along The Strand.
Circle and District line trains will continue to stop at Embankment during the work.
