Enfield fire: More than 70 firefighters tackle huge blaze at warehouse in north London

Ten fire engines and more than 70 firefighters are battling a pallet warehouse fire which is threatening to cause travel disruption on the M25 - one of Britain's busiest motorways.

A stack of wooden pallets and timber storage have caught fire, sending smoke billowing across the motorway.

Gas cylinders are thought to be at risk of exploding at the warehouse on Whitewebb Lane, Enfield, the London Fire Brigade said.

More than 30 have been removed from the site already, but it is unclear how many remain.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Graham Ellis, who is currently at the scene, said: "This is a difficult fire to fight but crews are working hard to bring it under control.

"The fire is likely to affect this morning’s rush hour as smoke is travelling across the M25 between junction 24 and 25.

"We’d also like to ask residents to avoid Whitewebbs Lane as it is closed."

No injuries have been reported.

Motorists on the M25, junction 24 and 25, have been asked to take extra care.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
