From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The National Crime Agency said police arrested the 30-year-old man from Southall, west London, along with a 37-year-old man from Colombia in the Terminal 5 bathroom at around 3.30pm on Thursday.
Officers said the 37-year-old had been arrested after he arrived on a flight from the Colombian capital Bogota.
A 43-year-old man was separately arrested in the arrivals area of the airport while a fourth man, 46, was arrested following a search at an address in east London.
All four men are in custody and are being questioned on suspicion of drug importation offences.
Senior investigating officer Darren Barr said: ‘Heathrow Airport provided invaluable assistance in this operation, and working with partners such as the Metropolitan Police Service, Border Force and the Heathrow authorities we are determined to target those who may be involved in criminality at the airport.’
In October a gang smuggled more than 100 kilos of cocaine worth £10 million through Heathrow Airport. The National Crime Agency intercepted six consignments of cocaine but it is believed more made it onto the streets.
