From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A man has been trampled to death by a herd of cows, police said.

The incident happened in a field in Turleigh, near Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire.

The emergency services were called at about 12.30pm yesterday but the man - who was in his 60s - was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man was seriously injured in the incident and airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol by the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

A police spokesman said: "Wiltshire Police received a call shortly before 1pm yesterday to reports of two men being trampled by a herd of cows in a field in Turleigh, Bradford on Avon.

"Upon arrival, one man in his 60s was pronounced dead and another man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

"He remains in Frenchay Hospital in Bristol in a stable condition, being treated for a punctured lung and broken ribs.

"The cattle were moved into a nearby field and pose no threat to other members of the public."
