Lockdown restrictions mapped: Which tier am I in?

All regions in England currently under tiers 3 and 4 with third national lockdown looking likely

With all areas of mainland England now under tier 3 or 4 restrictions as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, a new national lockdown looks increasingly likely as cases continue to rise.

Prime minister Boris Johnson told the BBC’s Andrew Marr on 3 January that measures were “probably about to get tougher” and said he was “reconciled to doing what it takes to get the virus down”, prompting Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer to urge him not to delay in announcing a third lockdown.

“The virus is clearly out of control,” Sir Keir said. “We can't allow the prime minister to use up the next two or three weeks and then bring in a national lockdown which is inevitable.”

As it stands, three-quarters of England are living under “stay at home” tier 4 restrictions - including the Midlands, North East, parts of the North West and parts of the South West. 

All other areas are now in tier 3.

In tier 4, non-essential retail will be forced to close including nail bars, beauty salons, and other spa services. Just like in lockdown, people in tier 4 will not be able to mix with other households indoors. They can, however, meet with one person from another household outside. Overnight stays are also not permitted, except for those within support bubbles.

In tier 3, households are banned from mixing except in limited outdoor settings such as parks. Bars and restaurants are to be limited to takeaway or delivery services and people would be advised to avoid travelling outside their area.

Only one area, the Isle of Scilly, remains under the lowest level of restrictions: tier 1.
