Police shut down party with over 60 guests in Leicester

Two revellers have been fined £10,000 each for breaching coronavirus restrictions by holding a party that saw more than 60 revellers cram into their flat in Leicester.

Bodycam footage shows the moment police entered the packed apartment.

One officer was so surprised at the sight tnat he can be heard letting out a single exclamation: “Woah!”

“The party’s over,” he shouts above the music and general chatter. “If you don’t live here, get out.”

All indoor gatherings are banned in Leicester, which remains in tier 3 of the government’s coronavirus restrictions system.

Leicestershire Police said they released the footage of the illegal bash – held in at a property in the city’s King Street on 12 December – to "reinforce the message that people must follow the rules or they risk being fined".

The force added that the two fines were among 37 doled out in the last fortnight totalling £23,500.

Some 26 penalty notices were also handed during a gathering of cars near Leicester General Hospital on Saturday, the force added.
