A supportive message of thanks to the NHS has been painted over graffiti on a motorway bridge that spans the M25.

“Thank you NHS” was painted in bright blue and white colours onto a bridge in Buckinghamshire that is known for its graffiti.

For several years the bridge bore the message “give peas a chance," and became a landmark for millions of drivers.

The graffiti was painted 18 months ago by the mysterious graffiti artist Helch.

Motorists spotted the new supportive message over the weekend and posted it in a Facebook group to celebrate the original graffiti which boasts more than 9, 000 followers.

The identity of the graffiti artist remains unknown.

The bridge, owned by Network Rail, spans the length of the M25 between junction 16 and 17 in Buckinghamshire.

The message is likely in reference to the hard work of NHS staff during the coronavirus pandemic, and is one of many public gestures in recent times to show appreciation to healthcare staff.

In a heartwarming gesture last week thousands across the country took part in the ‘Clap For Our Carers’ event and stepped outside their houses to join in a mass round of applause for NHS workers.
