From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

CCTV has caught the moment a man fired a gun at a house in what police believe was a targeted attack.

The clip, taken at around 10.30pm on Sunday June 10, shows the man pulling up outside a house before firing at the window.

Nobody was injured during the incident, but damage was caused to a downstairs window of the property and an Audi A4 parked outside.

A dark-coloured saloon car pulled up outside the property in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, and a man, described as being around 6ft tall and wearing light-coloured trousers, got out of the car and fired shots.

The man then got back into the car, which drove away.

A 36-year-old man was later arrested by officers on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

While officers from South Yorkshire Police believe this incident was targeted, they remain keen to hear from anyone who may hold information or recognises the vehicle or man featured in the clip.

Anyone with information can call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1064 of 10 June 2018.

Police are urging people to call Crimestoppers to pass on information anonymously, by calling 0800 555 111.
