A man narrowly escaped serious injury after the roof of a high street café collapsed seconds after he walked past.

CCTV footage has emerged showing a man walking past Stokey Vintage Café on Stoke Newington High Street in North London on Sunday when gale force winds caused part of the café's roof to blow off.

In the clip a matter of moments after the man is seen walking past the café, a pile of bricks and other debris crashes down onto the pavement and a cloud of dust erupts.

The clip, which has been shared on social media, has been viewed more than 115,000 times.

Users reacted to the video on Twitter with one saying: “Just how lucky is this person to be alive? Fate certainly smiled at him on that occasion. Whew!!!”

Another suggested the pedestrian makes the most of his luck: “If I'd been him would have been to get a lottery ticket asap his lucky day.”

No one was injured in the incident and the clean-up took two hours, according to the London Fire Brigade.

The building has been closed off and deemed unsafe by the authorities.
