From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Rema Beauty Begum leapt from the Coq d’Argent restaurant terrace in the City of London in front of around 100 people during the afternoon rush hour last Tuesday.
Not long before, the 29-year-old City worker had told her parents that her job interview had been ‘fine’ and that she would be home after having dinner with friends.
She had, however, already written ‘goodbye letters’ to her family, which she tucked into her trouser pockets before setting her handbag on the floor, taking a sip of wine and leaping from the eighth floor of the building.
An inquest into Ms Begum’s death was opened and adjourned at the City of London coroner’s court yesterday.
In a statement her family said: “We are incredibly shocked and upset at the untimely and tragic death of our daughter Rema.
‘We would ask for our privacy to be respected at this very difficult time so that we may grieve as a family in peace.’
A provisional cause of death was given as ‘multiple injuries’ and a toxicology report is being prepared.
Ms Begum’s death is the third time in five years that someone has fallen to their death from the Sir Terence Conran-founded restaurant.
In May 2007, 33-year-old City worker Richard Ford died after throwing himself off the restaurant and landing on a bus.
In July 2009, 24-year-old stockbroker Anjool Malde jumped to his death from the building while clutching a glass of champagne after being suspended from Deutsche Bank over a prank.
