A dog walker made the discovery at 8.20 on Saturday morning on the beach at Brown’s Bay, northeast of Newcastle.
The body was reportedly naked except for a pair of socks.
The man has not yet been formally identified, and Northumbria police are treating the death as “unexplained”.
It is not known whether the man died on the beach, or was washed onto the land by the sea. Officers are carrying out enquiries into the incident.
