Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Supermarket Asda is to cut its fuel prices by up to 2p a litre, it was announced today.

Drivers filling up at Asda forecourts will pay no more than 134.7p a litre for petrol and no more than 139.7p a litre for diesel from tomorrow.

It is the first time since late February that Asda diesel has fallen below the 140p-a-litre mark.

Andy Peake, Asda's director of petrol trading, said: "We're chuffed to be offering a third price move in as many weeks to hard-pressed motorists running on empty."

A Sainsbury's spokesman said: "We are doing everything we can to help our customers save money and along with the promotions we run in our stores, competitivefuel prices are a great way for us to help shoppers to meet their weekly budgets.

"By tomorrow, we will have cut fuel prices in all petrol stations by up to two pence per litre."
