Your support makes all the difference.Aldi customers have been advised to check their bank accounts after the supermarket chain doubled-charged shoppers for their purchases.
The German retail giant said a “processing error” had caused customers at some of its branches in the Midlands to be billed twice.
Aldi said some shoppers who made purchases on 4 or 7 August had been charged twice for the same goods.
The fault was reported to have affected about 6,000 customers.
Many complained to Aldi on social media, with some claiming they had been left overdrawn by the error.
Rich Vincent tweeted: “Thanks for taking an unauthorised duplicate payment out of my bank just before the bank holiday and payday.
“That’s not inconvenient that’s incompetent.”
Ellie Brown also accused Aldi of “total contempt for your customers”.
She tweeted: “No public apology for the thousands of customers you robbed yesterday. Disgusting.”
An Aldi spokesman said all customers affected were reimbursed within 24 hours of the “isolated incident”.
They added: “We have already identified the root cause and taken steps to prevent it from happening again. We are sorry for this error and any inconvenience caused to our customers.
“The issue is now resolved, but if customers require any further assistance we advise them to contact our customer services team.”
However, the supermarket insisted it would not refund customers for banking charges incurred when they were left overdrawn by the second payment.
It told shoppers on Twitter: “While customers will not be charged more than the initial transaction amount made in our store, any overdrawing of your account caused by the second charge will need to be addressed with your bank directly.”
