A major road into London has been closed after a woman in her 20s fell from a flyover and died in Hillingdon.

The A40, which runs from Wales through Buckinghamshire and into the capital, is closed eastbound due to the incident near Swakeleys Roundabout.

Paramedics and police were called to the scene shortly after 4pm on Thursday to reports of a woman fallen from a height.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: “Sadly she was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We also treated four motorists but they did not need to attend hospital.”

Several cars were involved in the accident, the Metropolitan Police said, and the woman was in her 20s. Her family has been informed.

It was unclear when the road would be reopened and long queues have been reported in both directions and on surrounding routes.

The tragedy came just weeks after a passer-by and a police officer just a week into his job stopped a teenage girl falling from the same flyover.
