Zutons singer denies breaking man's nose

The lead singer in rock band The Zutons appeared in court today and denied breaking a man's nose during a row outside a nightclub.

Dave McCabe, 29, wrote the song Valerie which later became a worldwide hit when it was covered by Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse.

He was accused at Liverpool Crown Court today of headbutting Peter Appleby in an incident outside the Korova nightclub in Liverpool city centre last February.

McCabe, of Vale Road, Liverpool, pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was granted unconditional bail until his trial on September 20.
