Wood Green shooting: Murder probe launched as father-of-two is killed in 'drive-by shooting'
Police are investigating the murder of a man shot in north London who was said to be 'in the wrong place, at the wrong time'
A murder investigation has begun after the fatal shooting of a father of two in Haringey, north London.
A man was killed and a woman seriously injured in a shooting in Lordship Lane, Wood Green during daylight hours on Friday.
The victim has been named locally as Erdogan Guzel, a 42-year-old father of two. His son and daughter, aged between 15 and 16, are on holiday in Turkey, according to neighbours.
The woman, who has not been named, is in her 50s and was taken to an east London hospital. Her condition is said to be critical but stable.
The double-shooting took place at 5.45pm during evening rush hour outside Bros Bakery where friends say Mr Guzel would often sit.
A witness to the shooting, Mihir Yurdakul, 35, told the Evening Standard he was sitting with Mr Guzel when a car came by and someone fired multiple shots "within a few seconds".
“They just started shooting – they didn't care who was there. They were just shooting everywhere from a machine gun.”
An air ambulance crew treated Mr Guzel at the scene but he was declared dead at around 7.00pm.
A family friend of the man, Imam Sumbul, said: "He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The bullet was not meant for him."
Police cordoned off Lordship Lane between Winkfield Road and Perth Road, which has since re-opened, and a forensics team was sent to the scene.
No arrests have been made so far.
