Woman vows to stand by her husband after he is convicted of child rape

A mother-of-four has vowed to stand by her husband despite a jury finding him guilty of raping a seven-year-old girl.

Michael Duncan, 33, who was also found guilty of indecently assaulting an eight-year-old girl, faces up to 13 years in prison.

The historic child sex crimes took place 19 years ago, when he was 14.

But his wife Jolene, 31, is convinced he is innocent.

She told the Milton Keynes Citizen: "If I thought he was a child rapist I would not stay with him for one minute.

"I'd take our children and be off like a shot."

Duncan denied one count of indecent assault and one count of rape during a week-long trial at Aylesbury Crown Court.

He was convicted on Monday of both charges, which took place in Milton Keynes between 1996 and 1997.

She told the paper: “The first we knew about it was when police knocked on our door out of the blue two years ago.

“We never dreamed Michael would be found guilty."

She added: “We’ve been together for 19 years, since we were teenagers, and we’ve been married for nine years.

"There is nothing about my husband that I do not know, and I will never believe he did these terrible things.”

The couple, who have four sons aged between four and 10, are now awaiting the sentencing on 3 May.
