A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman plunged to her death from a block of flats

The woman, believed to have been aged in her thirties, was reported to have fallen from the seventh floor shortly before 6am.

She was pronounced dead at the scene at Clarendon House in Clarendon Road, Hove, East Sussex.

Sussex Police said the woman and the arrested man were known to each other and had been in recent contact with police.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct, the police watchdog, has been notified of the incident.

Detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team are investigating the death.

“The investigation is at an early stage and no further information is currently available,” said Sussex Police in a statement.

“At 5.53am on Saturday (18 January) police were called to Clarendon House, Clarendon Road, Hove, after a woman believed to be in her early thirties was reported to have fallen to the ground from the 7th floor of the flats.

“She was sadly confirmed dead at the scene. The death is being investigated by detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team and a 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.”​
