Two teenagers arrested after 14-year-old girl's body found in Wolverhampton park
Area remains cordoned off and is expected to remain closed over the weekend
Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 14-year-old girl was found dead in a park.
Vicktorija Sokolova's body was discovered by a member of the public in West Park, Wolverhampton, at around 7am on Thursday.
The Lithuanian-born teenager was reported missing the day before and a post-mortem examination concluded she died from a blunt force trauma to her head.
Two boys aged 16 and 17 were arrested at their homes in the city and remain in custody where they are due to be questioned by detectives.
Superintendent Harvi Khatkar, of Wolverhampton Police, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with Vicktorija's family and friends at this terrible time.
“We fully understand that people will be really concerned about what has happened, but we have a dedicated team of detectives working on the investigation.
“Extra patrols will be taking place in the area and I’d encourage anyone with concerns to speak to their local officers."
Detective Chief Inspector Edward Foster, from the force's homicide unit, said the park was immediately sealed off to allow a full forensic search of the area.
"My team are working around the clock to understand what happened to this girl and our inquiries to date have led to today's arrests," he added.
"A number of people have come forward with information, but I would still like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious or saw a young girl in the park overnight from Wednesday onwards."
The park remains cordoned off and is expected to remain closed over the weekend, the force added.
