Wigan pond death teenager named
Police tonight named a suspected murder victim who died in a pond.
The body of Dylan Aaron, 17, was discovered earlier today in Wigan, Greater Manchester, by a police underwater search team after a fire and rescue water incident unit failed to trace him.
Police were called to the scene off Ladies Lane, Hindley, shortly after 3.50am today following reports of an assault.
It was also reported a 17-year-old youth had gone into the water and had not been seen for some time.
The body of Dylan, from Margaret Street, Hindley, was found at 8.05am, while another boy received minor injuries from the assault.
Two men aged 26 and 34 were arrested on suspicion of murder and assault, and remain in custody.
In a statement, Dylan's family said: "Dylan was only 17-years-old and he was our eldest son.
"None of us can understand why this happened.
"He was a young man with a promising future and all of us will miss him dearly, especially his brothers and sisters.
"We all loved him so much."
A post-mortem examination was due to take place later as the inquiry continued.
Superintendent Phil Unsworth said: "This is a tragic incident where a 17-year-old boy has lost his life in unexplained circumstances.
"Our investigation is still in the very early stages and there are a number of questions yet to be answered but a team of detectives are working hard to establish exactly what happened.
"We have been talking to the people who were at the pond last night and they have been extremely helpful, but there is still gaps we need to fill.
"If anyone has information about what happened or witnessed the incident and has not already been in touch with the police, then please don't hesitate to call.
"Finally, I want to commend the actions of those at the scene who tried to help save the boy.
"We have specially trained officers with the family now to help them through what has happened."
