Killing one of spate of knife murders across capital

A teenage boy has been stabbed to death in west London, the latest in a string of knife murders across the capital.

The male victim, who has not been named, was found with wounds to his chest in West Kensington on Thursday afternoon, police said. He was taken to hospital but he later died.

Scotland Yard said no arrests had been made and inquiries were ongoing.

It was the latest of a spate of stabbings across the capital this week.

Spanish national David Martinez was fatally stabbed on Wednesday afternoon in Leyton, east London. No arrests have been made, but police said they believed he knew his killer.

A 37-year-old man who was stabbed in London’s West End on Sunday succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

Joe Gynane, 34, has been charged with attempted murder in relation to the Soho attack, but police said that would now be subject to a review by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Mr Gynane also faces a charge of attempted murder in relation to a second stabbing in Camden that day.

A 41-year-old woman arrested in connection with the incident has been released under investigation.

A 16-year-old boy was also stabbed on Sunday morning but his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Meanwhile, the family of 17-year-old Jodie Chesney, who was stabbed to death in an unprovoked attack at a park in Harold Hill last Friday have made an emotional appeal for information.

The teenager’s dad Peter, stepmother Joanne and sister Lucy spoke of their pain at the loss of a young woman who was sociable and popular.

“My daughter was just sat in a park, minding her own business," Mr Chesney said, adding that the suspects were sitting near to his daughter and her friends "and probably would have heard her laughter".

He said: “They then left and came back and stabbed Jodie in the back. What kind of kudos is there in stabbing a 17-year-old?

“Jodie was the nicest person. Everything about her was thoughtful and kind. She wouldn’t have done anything to deserve this. They [those responsible] have destroyed something beautiful. Jodie needs justice and we need justice.”

He remains at a police station in east London after a court gave police more time to question him on Thursday.

Detectives in London are also investigating a homophobic attack which took place at a bus stop near a McDonald’s restaurant in Brixton, south London, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Two 22-year-old men said they had been sprayed in the face with a noxious substance, believed to be pepper spray, by a man in a hate crime attack.

Detectives investigating the assault have since identified that two other men may have been the victims of a similar assault in a nearby KFC 20 minutes earlier on the same night.
