Grieving family racially abused while paying respects at scene of fatal car crash
‘Racial abuse is unacceptable at any time but feels even more despicable when a family have just lost a loved one’
A grieving family was racially abused while paying their respects at the scene of a fatal hit-and-run.
West Midlands Police said the incident happened while the bereaved were visiting a floral memorial to Kulvinder Kaur on Saturday, two days after she died.
While at the scene in Cavendish Road, Walsall, a passer-by hurled what police described as “vile comments” towards the family.
Sergeant Stephen Pursglove, from West Midlands Police, said: “Racial abuse is unacceptable at any time but feels even more despicable when a family have just lost a loved one.
“The abuser was on foot so we believe he may be local and most likely aware of what tragically happened just two days beforehand.
“This makes it all more deplorable and we are urging anyone who can help our investigation to get in touch as soon as possible.”
Ms Kaur, 52, was hit by a Peugeot 206 just after 1pm on Thursday and died at the scene.
A 20-year-old man has since been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene and other traffic offences.
