Man pushed onto underground tracks at Stockwell station

A man was pushed onto train tracks at Stockwell Tube station, in an assault which was captured on CCTV.

The victim, who is in his 50s, had a brief conversation with his attacker on the platform at 2.30am on 30 June.

In the clip the attacker can be seen seizing hold of the man, punching him and pushing him onto the tracks, before leaving the platform.

A passer-by then helped the man climb back up to the platform.

His attacker has not been caught.

The victim did not require medical attention.

“This was an extremely serious incident and it is vitally important we identify the man in this footage,” said DC Zoe Wornham, of British Transport Police.

“Very fortunately, there were no trains approaching the station at the time the victim was pushed onto the tracks; if there were this incident could have ended in tragedy.”

A similar attack on 27 April, 2018, saw a man push a 91-year-old pensioner onto the tracks at Marble Arch underground station.

The older man only escaped being hit by a train after a fast-acting bystander jumped onto the tracks to help him back to the platform – less than a minute before the next train was due.

Paul Crossley, 47, was found guilty on two counts of attempted murder and jailed for life, in relation to the Marble Arch attack and a second similar assault at Tottenham Court Road station.
