The funeral of Michaela McAreavey, who was murdered a week ago while on honeymoon in Mauritius, was attended by thousands of mourners yesterday.

Her father, Gaelic football manager Mickey Harte, and her husband, John, carried her coffin as the crowd walked in silence to the church in Ballymacilroy, Co Tyrone, where she was married last month.

The Bishop of Dromore John McAreavey, the widower's uncle who had married the couple, delivered the address. He said: "An evil act ended Michaela's young life last Monday."

Three men who worked at the hotel have been charged.
