A teenager has been arrested over hoax bomb calls to two schools earlier this month.

The 16-year-old was arrested and held in custody on Sunday in connection with two hoax calls to secondary schools in Scotland.

The teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday.

His arrest and detention follows hoax bomb threats to Cumnock Academy and Auchinleck Academy in East Ayrshire on June 1.

He is the second youth to be arrested in connection with hoax bomb threats to schools this month.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on June 2 following incidents in Glasgow, Clydebank, Campbeltown and Lanarkshire.

Police Scotland said in his case a report would be submitted to the Scottish Children's Reporter Administration.
