A teenage boy has been charged with raping a 14-year-old girl in Newhaven.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said the 17-year-old suspect was due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court over Friday night’s attack.

Det Insp Gavin Patch, of the East Sussex Community Investigation Team, said: “Services continue to support the 14-year-old victim and her family through this traumatic experience.”

The assault came a month after another 14-year-old girl was raped twice in one night near a railway station in Birmingham.

Police said the first attack happened near Aston Villa football ground, with the victim later flagging down a passing car to ask for help and being raped by the driver.

One man has been charged and another questioned in relation to the Birmingham case.
