A 24-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in Swindon left a male victim in critical condition in hospital.

Kelmoy Romere Brown, of no fixed address, was charged following a suspected knife attack at an address in Aylesbury Street on 23 December, Wiltshire Police said.

Officers were called to a disturbance at the home around 7pm on Sunday. A man in his 30s had suffered multiple injuries – including a stab wound in his back – believed to have been caused by a knife.

The victim remains in critical condition in hospital.

Mr Brown has been remanded in police custody and is due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Boxing Day.

Police later said no further action would be taken again a 33-year-old woman, from Swindon, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

However, the woman remains in custody for an unrelated matter.

Detective Sergeant Matt Salmon, from Swindon CID, said: “This was a serious assault which has left a man with life-threatening injuries.

“We know this will understandably cause concern amongst the local community and people should expect to see an increased police presence in the area while we continue with our investigation.

DS Salmon added: “We would urge anyone with information, no matter how small or insignificant you think it may be, to contact police on 101.”
