Police have launched a murder investigation after the body of an 88-year old-man was discovered at a home in Surrey.

The victim, who has not yet been publicly identified, was found by officers called to the address in Godstone, near Reigate, at around 11am on Monday morning.

Police gave no details of any injuries and said a post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death is underway.

Detective Chief Inspector Colin Pirie, from the Surrey and Sussex major crime team, added specialist officers were supporting the man’s next of kin.

The deployed officers to search the nearby area, conducting house-to-house enquiries while closing off a lane of the nearby A25. No arrests have been made.

“The investigation is still in the early stages but we would like to reassure the local community that we are doing everything we can to establish the circumstances of this man’s death”, Mr Pirie said.

“Our thoughts remain with his family and friends at this time who are being supported by specialist officers.

“If you have any information which could help, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
