A British parliamentary aide who reportedly claimed to have had sex with honeymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani is to give evidence at his trial as a prosecution witness.

The advisor, who has not been named, allegedly met the care-home owner at The Hoist gay nightclub in London and claims to have had sex with Dewani on several occasions.

Sources told the Daily Mail the man is scheduled to appear in court as a witness next week.

It comes as one of the two gunman convicted of murdering Anni Dewani told a South African court how he was hired by Dewani on Wednesday, saying: “There was a husband who wanted a wife killed.”

Qwabe said he was contacted by Zola Tongo, the Dewanis' taxi driver, the day before the killing, and they agreed to meet the day after. He said a price of 15,000 rand (about £1,330 at the time) was agreed for the murder.

Asked by prosecutor Adrian Mopp to explain what happened on the day of the Anni’s death, her kidnapper Qwabe said: “There was a husband who wanted his wife to be killed. Anni would be killed and it needed to look like a hijacking.

"Nothing would happen to the husband and Zola."

He told the court he and fellow convict Xolile Mngeni arranged for transport to meet up with the Dewanis' cab for the attack, during which the millionaire's mobile phone would also be taken as part of the ruse.

Describing the carjacking, Qwabe said: "(Mngeni) had the gun. As it (Tongo's car) approached I got into the driver's side.

"(Mngeni) got into the passenger side and Zola got into the back. I saw in the (rear view) window a guy and behind me was a lady."

"I ordered Zola to get out of the car. He told me the money was in a pouch behind the front passenger door," Qwabe said, adding they drove further into a township.

"I stopped the vehicle, I asked the husband to get out of the car. The husband was now out of the vehicle and I drove on.

He said he was behind the wheel when Anni was fatally wounded, telling the court: "I heard a gun shot. (Mngeni) said 'I shot the lady'.”

Dewani, 34, appeared before Western Cape High Court on Monday for the first day of the two-month trial. He denies any involvement in the murder.

Prosecutors argue Dewani - who on Monday said he was bisexual and had sex with male prostitutes - wanted out of the marriage, following an 18-month courtship, and that the murder was meant to seem like a carjacking-gone-wrong.

He claims the pair were enjoying their honeymoon following a luxury Mumbai wedding when their taxi was carjacked and he was ejected from the vehicle, while Anni, 28, was kept inside.
