A woman found dead in the street on a remote Scottish island reportedly had her throat slashed.

Named locally as Tracy Walker, the 40-year-old was found outside a home on Shetland in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency workers.

She had suffered what a source told the Daily Record was a “horrific” knife wound to her throat.

Police Scotland would not comment on the nature of her injuries, but said officers from its mainland-based major investigations unit were working the case.

Two people have been arrested in connection with Ms Walker’s death – a man, aged 31, and a 27-year-old woman.

Ms Walker’s brother, Dell Smith, told the Scottish Sun that his sister was "the best human being you could meet."

He said: "She was all the cliches – good and warm-hearted. This has just come out of the blue for me.”

Detective Inspector Ross Fitzgerald said: “Our enquiries remain ongoing and are at a relatively early stage. There is no apparent risk to the wider community.”

He added that a significant police presence would likely remain in the area over coming days.
