A number of people were seriously injured in a street shooting today.

Armed officers raced to the scene of the attack near the railway station in Letchworth Garden City, Herts.

Police said Pixmore Avenue in the city was sealed off after the incident at about 11.40 this morning.

A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire Police said a number of people were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A number of weapons were recovered and a number of people arrested, she said, but could not confirm details of the incident.

A taxi driver said: "As far as I know a man has been shot in the face three times.

"I've been told by other drivers that one of the blokes said he was going to shoot the other and the other one said 'go on then'. And he did, three times."
